Cayo Costa, Florida – November 4, 2014

Day 249
Miles Today: 35 SM; Total Miles: 5,038 SM
Locks Today: 0 ; Total Locks: 103

After a nice night in Venice, we untied the lines at 8: 00 a.m. and followed Putz’n Around out of Crows Nest Marina. It was another beautiful day as we made our way south. It was an easy trip today with only a few bridges to contend with. Heights. Island Time has an air draft of almost 22 feet to the top of the mast. Several bridges looked high enough on the charts for us to clear but in reality, were lower resulting in us requesting an opening.

Our last bridge was the Boca Grande swing bridge which opens on the hour and the half-hour. Unfortunately, we arrive just after an opening so we idled near the bridge for 30 minutes. After clearing the bridge, we entered Charlotte Harbor. We’ve crossed Charlotte Harbor when it has been bumpy but today was a nice crossing. We arrived at Cayo Costa at 1:30 p.m. and anchored near Brigitte and Scott on Putz’n Around.

We launched the dinghy and were joined by Brigitte and Scott. We went to the little cove looking for manatee but didn’t find any there. So we went to the State Park dock and went to the beach across the island. The Gulf was beautiful and calm!

Tomorrow we cross our wake in Cape Coral!
